B015 柄,Tsuka(=hilt)
なんかいまさらという気がしないでもないですが柄です(笑)。持つとこです。
日本刀の柄の芯は中子の形に掘り下げた２枚の朴の木を続飯(ソクイ)と呼ばれるご飯を
練ったものではりあわせてあります。
Tsuka means a hilt. We use J.S. with it.
Tsuka is made with magnolia boards chiseled Nakago shape.
Boards are put stick with Sokui. Sokui is kneaded boiled rice. We use it like an adhesive.
その芯のまわりを鮫皮で包み、すべり止めとします。先端は頭(カシラ)と呼ばれる
水牛の角または金具で補強し、鞘側は縁(フチ)と呼ぶ金具で補強しています。
Tsuka is covered Samekawa. It is skidproof.
Kashira(=head) is on the top of Tsuka. Kashira is made of buffalo horn.
Fuchi(=brim) is on the bottom of Tsuka. Fuchi is made of metal. They are guard of Tsuka.
差し表は鞘がわに、差し裏は頭がわに目貫と呼ばれる金具を据えます。
Menuki is metal fittings. It is on a little to the Fuchi at Sashiomote.
And on a little to the Kashira at Sashiura.
さらにその上を柄糸(ツカイト)という組みひもで頑丈に巻き上げてあります
(巻かない柄もあり、出し鮫といいます。)
Tsuka is bound up with Tsukaito(=yarn). It make Tsuka strong.
Tsuka without yarn,it's called Dashisame(=out shark).
そのなかに中子を入れ、目釘(メクギ)と呼ばれる竹のピンで止めてあります。
意外に感じる方もいるかもしれませんがあの長く重たい日本刀は直径６ミリくらいのこの「目釘」だけで固定されています。
J.S. is put into Tsuka and fixed with Mekugi(=eye nail).
Mekugi is small nail made by bamboo.It is not hard fix.. But I think it's better not for breaking.
頼りない気もしますがこのように少々自由度をもたせて焼きの入った上身(カミと
読みます。)と入っていない中子の境界、刀のウイークポイントである刃区あたりに
力が集中しないようにしてあるのではないかと思っております。
刀身と柄をあんまりガチガチに固定すると刃区あたりでポッキリ行きそうな気がするのですがどうでしょうか？
